SAS Acquires Software Firm IDeaS

SAS Tuesday confirmed that it has acquired IDeaS Revenue Optimization, a provider of advanced revenue-management software for the hospitality industry.

The acquisition, according to SAS will enhance its existing portfolio of analytics, business intelligence and industry-specific solutions, and allow it to now target the travel and hospitality industries.

IDeaS delivers solutions via software as a service which essentially allows organisation to access applications over the Internet, eliminating cost of new hardware and software installation. Software upgrades are also made painless via this technology as changes can be made the on the Internet host.

With the partnership, IDeaS expects its customers to benefit from the global resources of SAS, a 2 billion dollar company.

23% of IDeaS’ global business is generated from the Asia Pacific (AP) region with China and India growing significantly.

With 200 employees worldwide, IDeaS has an AP headquarters in Sydney and offices in Singapore and Delhi. Additionally there is a team of 100 based in Pune, India’s center of Technical Excellence. Some of Its global customers include: Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Ascott Group, Fairmont/Raffles, Oberoi, Hilton, Hyatt International, Mandarin Oriental, The Venetian Hotel and Casino Macau, Pan Pacific and Wynn Macau.

“SAS is a perfect fit for IDeaS. Customers of neither company are locked into long-term licenses, so we both have to earn our customers’ business on a daily basis,” said Ed Booth, CEO and Chairman of IDeaS.

“We have sought for some time to expand our scope beyond hospitality applications and SAS, with a corporate culture remarkably similar to ours, will provide IDeaS with the resources to stretch its wings.”

Both SAS and IDeaS are privately held. Financial terms of the acquisition are not available.
