Challenger Mobile Opens 1st Asian Office in S’pore

Challenger Mobile, provider of end-to-end white-label Mobile VoIP platforms to wireless operators, content and service providers, has made its mark in Asia with the opening of an office in Singapore.

This is the second office for the Stockholm, Sweden based company which has been operational since 2001.

"To date, Asia has not experienced the rapid growth in MVNOs seen in other markets, but we believe this is about to change," said Esa Pollari, Director of Business Development, Challenger Mobile

"Mobile VoIP removes many of the barriers that have hindered MVNOs in their efforts to gain a foothold in Asia, creating attractive opportunities for new entrants plus significant cost savings for subscribers. MVNOs that route calls via WiFi can boost their margins considerably, and we believe the combination of these Mobile VoIP benefits will encourage a whole new wave of competition throughout the Asia/Pacific region."

According to Gartner Inc., while worldwide sales of mobile phones increased by 13.6 percent from Q1 2007 to Q1 2008, sales in the Asia/Pacific region increased by 26.6 percent, nearly twice the worldwide growth rates, over the same period.

Most Asian countries remain strong markets in large part because mobile phones are the primary means of communication for many individuals. Mobile VoIP is well-suited for these markets because it offers significantly lower costs for roaming, long-distance and international calling, and international calls are commonplace for many Asians.

Challenger focuses on the convergence of Mobile and VoIP technologies, creating software solutions that enable providers to rapidly enter this emerging market with flexible, scalable systems that offer a low cost of entry, standards-based architecture, and branded service offerings.
