Microsoft’s OOXML Format Defeated At ISO vote |

Despite lobbying hard with lawmakers, government and anyone who had a say in deciding standards, Microsoft’s bid to make its OOXML document has come to a naught.
On Sunday, September 2, the day of voting and to decide standards, Open Document Format, or ODF, backed by Google and IBM cam out trumps as many countries supported it. ODF had already received International Standards Organisation (ISO) support.
However, this was just the first voting. There’s one more voting to happen—in February 2008 when either of the two standards will become official document format globally. |
