Sun has taken the wraps off Sun Startup Essentials, a new program that aims to enable early-stage companies to run their businesses on Sun's technologies at a cost that fits their budgets. The program intends on offering start-ups a range of Sun products and services at significant discounts, including its Sun Fire x64 (x86, 64-bit) and CoolThreads servers powered by the Solaris Operating System (OS).
According to Juan Carlos Soto, vice president, Technology and Partner Marketing, Sun Microsystems, the program aims to foster entrepreneurial spirit and give young companies access to the Sun technologies.
Sun products eligible for discounts as part of Sun Startup Essentials include its energy-efficient, high performance Sun Fire x64 and Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 servers, as well as x64 and UltraSPARC(R)-based workstations. The Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 servers, based on the UltraSPARC T1 processor, aim to deliver 5x the performance of competitive servers, using 1/5 the power and 1/4 the space and are the only systems to qualify for a power rebate from PG&E.
Early interest in the Sun Startup Essentials program has been strong and more than 20 companies have already signed up to take advantage of the offer. The Sun Startup Essentials program will be available for a limited time and is open to eligible startups in the United States. For information on the start-up, click here.
