Indian cycle and motorcycle maker Hero Group has bought Scotland based Telecom Service Centres (TSC), the UK's fourth-largest call-centre operator for £40 million.
TSC, which employs around 3,000 people, would become part of the group’s call centre business, HeroITeS. The new entity will be renamed TSC Hero and will offer a multi-site solution, increasing market potential and growth prospects in Europe, Asia and the US.
This is the second instance of an Indian company starting a BPO or a call centre in the UK. HCL, India’s fifth largest software and services company had started a call centre in the UK two years ago.
The trend of starting call centres or BPO in the UK has more to do with British companies sourcing work to Indian companies insisting on having the backoffice operation within the UK.
After acquiring TSC, Hero has pledged not to shut down the call centre and has also promised to increase the number of staff.
TSC employs about 3,000 workers in Scotland and Yorkshire and was founded in 1994. |
